After just two years, Milk Can Diner in Greendale is closing. According to its Facebook post, its last day will be Oct. 1.

Greendale Village President Jason Cyborowski confirmed the news and said he is sad to see this restaurant close. "It was a great spot. They were involved in the community. They did PTO nights, and they helped the community in any way they could," he said.

Restaurant officials cited that they are focusing on its other two restaurants in Muskego, Bass Bay Brewhouse and Milk Can Hamburgers & Frozen Custard.

"The last two years have taught us a lot about ourselves and as a company," the diner wrote on its Facebook page. "We want to thank our wonderful staff for their hard work, and the community for their support. Honestly, we wish that we would’ve been able to serve this community for much longer than we were able to."

Milk Can Diner opened in the spring of 2021 at 5636 Broad St. in Greendale, taking over the space occupied by Ferch's Malt Shoppe and Grille, which was in business from 1987 until it closed in October 2020 when the owners, Betty and Dale Ferchoff retired.

Before opening in Greendale, Milk Can Diner provided burgers, drinks, breakfast foods and other items via their food truck for about a year. The diner had a Friday fish fry and some unique items such as the turtle French toast, chicken and cornbread French toast and parmesan-crusted grilled cheese.

Its Muskego location, Milk Can Hamburgers & Frozen Custard opened in the winter of 2021. Bass Bay Brewhouse opened in 2015.

Milk Can Diner is open regular hours until it closes. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday; 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

According to the restaurant's Facebook page, any gift cards not used this week can be redeemed at Milk Can Hamburgers & Frozen Custard in Muskego.
