Without last year's delays, property taxes in Greene County are due Dec. 31st.

Property owners should have received a bill from the Greene County Collector's office sometime in November. Those who have real estate or personal property need to pay their taxes by the end of the year or face fines.

Greene County property taxes can be paid online at greenecountymo.gov/collector/pay_taxes/. Alternatively, taxes can paid in-person at 940 N Boonville Ave Room 107 in Springfield, MO 65802. If mailing taxes, they must be postmarked by Dec. 31.

Property-owning Greene County residents who have not yet received a bill should contact the Collector's Office by emailing collectorhelp@greenecountymo.gov or calling 417-868-4036.

"Contact us right away to avoid late payment fees. We don't want you to pay any more than you have to," reads the Collector's Office website. "Payments postmarked after December 31st will be returned unprocessed unless late fees are included. Please keep in mind that if you put your payment in a mailbox after the last pick-up time has passed, your payment will not be postmarked on time."

The Collector's Office also encourages residents to verify all items of the bill before making payments.

"If you wait to change an item after you pay you may owe more and have to pay late payment fees OR you may owe less and have to wait a long time for a refund. Make sure any errors are corrected far enough in advance that you can pay your correct statement before the due date."

Last year, payment of property taxes was delayed because the county failed to mail out all bills by early November. Last month, Greene County officials announced there were no such issues this year and the deadline would remain December 31.

"The clerk’s office was able to meet its statutory deadline and deliver a tax book on time. At this time, we believe it is being delivered with the accuracy standard we all strive to meet in our offices respectively and has taken place traditionally via each office during tax administration time," said Greene County Clerk Shane Schoeller in early November.
