Greenhouses improve Mid-Ohio Farm at NBC4

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Tuesday marked another step forward for the Mid-Ohio Farm at NBC4 right behind our studios and aimed at supplying fresh produce for our neighbors.

Two new greenhouses, known as high tunnels in the gardening business, have now been built at the farm.

The greenhouses will allow the farm to plant earlier and harvest later, extending the growing season, and boosting the harvest for the community.

The greenhouses will hold 264 vining plants, including tomatoes and cucumbers, and the vines will be grown vertically from pot to ceiling to increase the yield.

The farm has made other big strides recently; this is the first season of full-time production, and we expect to harvest 480 heads of lettuce each week. In addition, a retaining wall was added for a new herb garden, along with a new fence to create a more secure entrance for our neighbors.
