Greensburg YWCA field hockey registration set

Jul. 15—The Greensburg YWCA girls field hockey program is registering girls now through Aug. 30, for a season that resumes after being canceled last year because of the covid pandemic.

The practices and home games will be played at Hempfield Park, 222 Forbes Trail Road.

Beginners and returning players in grades five to eight will either practice or play games on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., said Jeanne Kaylor, volunteer coordinator.

The team will play five home games and five away games with other middle school teams from Winchester-Thurston, Ellis School and St. Edmunds Academy, all in Pittsburgh; the Valley School in Ligonier Township and Aquinas Academy in Hampton.

Girls in second grade through fourth grade will practice Mondays and Wednesdays, from 5 to 6:15 p.m., with an in-house game to end the season.

The season ends Oct. 29 for both teams.

The YWCA program has attracted players from the Greensburg, Hempfield, Irwin, North Huntingdon, Harrison City and Latrobe areas, Kaylor said. The field hockey program has operated close to 30 years.

Players should have shoes, a field hockey stick and shin guards. Loaner sticks are available, Kaylor said.

Players can register through the YWCA website at www.ywcawestmoreland.org or by calling 724-834-9390. For information, contact Kaylor at 724-836-0513.
