Greensburg's Steve Snider Memorial Day race includes section of Five Star Trail

May 25—Runners will take to the streets of Greensburg on Monday for the inaugural Steve Snider "It's A Beautiful Day" 5K race.

The event honoring the late longtime Greensburg Salem track and cross country coach is being presented by the Greensburg YMCA. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. on Urania Avenue, near the Sunset Cafe.

Runners will follow a course along streets in the community while those who choose to walk will be diverted onto the Five Star Trail for a portion of the course, from a midpoint at Huff Avenue in South Greensburg.

The race ends at Greensburg's Offutt Field, where final pickup of race packets is scheduled from 7 to 8 a.m. Monday, followed by an opening ceremony at about 8:15 a.m.

The field also will be the location for presentation of awards for top race finishers in multiple categories and for a separate kids' race, which begins at 9:30 a.m.

Race registration and early packet pickup is set for 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Offutt Field.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Steve Snider Memorial Scholarship fund for Greensburg Salem School District students, youth activities at the Greensburg YMCA and revitalization of Greensburg playgrounds.

Snider also taught physical education and health at Greensburg Salem for 36 years. He died in February 2022, at 72, after a long battle with heart complications.
