Greenup Co. HOF inducts six

Oct. 14—GREENUP — Greenup County Schools added six members to its Hall of Fame on Friday night.

The inductees are Diana Kouns, Sheila Ratliff Reeder, Greg Logan, Tammy Jo Edge, Kenny Imel and Bob Meenach.

Kouns is a 1964 graduate of McKell High School and a 1969 Morehead State University graduate. She taught at South Portsmouth Elementary for 14 years beginning in 1970. She moved to McKell Elementary School, teaching there for 15 years. She participated in tutoring programs, served on numerous interview committees and mentored many student teachers. In 1998, Kouns retired from Greenup County Schools, but she continued to tutor students through the Little Red Schoolhouse for an additional 13 years. According to the school district, Kouns continues to serve the students of Greenup County by annually securing donations for those in need. Kouns is married to Greenup County alumnus Bob Kouns.

Reeder is a 1970 graduate of McKell High. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at Morehead State. After a short stint at Lewis County, Reeder returned to Greenup and began teaching at McKell Elementary. In 1981, she became the building's first female principal — a position she retained until 1995. After a few years at Ashland Independent, Reeder came back to Greenup and accepted the role of superintendent in 1999. As the first female superintendent, the district thrived under her leadership, according to the school. Reeder and her husband, Tom, now reside in Florida near twin sons.

Logan was Greenup County's varsity baseball coach from 2006-22. Under his leadership, the team tallied five state quarterfinal appearances and assembled a record of 384 wins and 192 losses. Logan is a 1981 Greenup County graduate who played baseball at William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. In 1984, Logan married his wife, Angela. They have three children — Tiffany, Billy and Angel. Logan has been the owner and president of River Cities Builders since 1996. His company, according to the school, has made several contributions to the district and local community.

Edge — better known locally as simply "Tammy Jo" — is a 1977 Greenup County graduate. She graduated from Morehead State after earning a twirling scholarship. She finished with a Bachelor's in Business Administration. Edge opened her own dance studio — Tammy Jo's — in 1981. Her teams competed on national stages for decades. She's been married to her husband, David, for 40 years. They have two daughters — Whitley and Shelby — and three grandsons (Asher, Gabriel and Jasper). After stepping away from the studio in 2015, Edge moved to Lexington. She now works for the University of Kentucky, In 2018, she received the Greenup Arts Heritage Award.

Imel graduated from Greenup County High in 1980. He studied horticulture and earned an Associate's degree at Morehead State. Imel and his wife, Pam, have three children and one granddaughter. Imel is the owner and primary operator of Imel's Greenhouse. He started the business at age 15 under Future Farmers of America. He's been the President and Vice President of Greenup County Farm Bureau. He's currently the President. He's also the Vice Chairman of the Agritourism Advisory Council for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. Imel is an Eagle Scout, an FFA American Farmer and a Kentucky Colonel.

Meenach is a 1966 McKell High graduate. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1970 with a Bachelor's in Business Administration. He earned a Master's degree at Morehead State in the same field. Meenach describes himself as the "working man's insurance agent and financial services man." He is the largest-reaching State Farm agent in Kentucky. For 10 years, Meenach was among the 50 top-achieving agents nationwide. He's in the State Farm President's Club. Meenach was raised by his grandparents and worked his way through college on the railroad. His motto is the following: "You don't have to have a lot of money. You don't have to have a special name. You can be an old boy from Schulz."
