Greenup health department announces winner

Jan. 10—GREENUP — Greenup County High School Student Council's video has won the Greenup County Health Department's "Escape the Vape" Anti-Vaping Video Contest.

The Escape the Vape video aims to raise awareness about the dangers of vaping and promote a healthier lifestyle among today's youth.

The winning video will be featured at Ashland Cinemark Movies 10 and across Greenup County Health Department's digital platforms, local media and community outreach initiatives to maximize its impact.

"We believe in the power of creative expression to drive positive change, and Greenup County High School has truly captured that essence with their video," Chris Crum, public health director at GCHD, said. "Through this contest, we are committed to fostering a community that actively stands against vaping and encourages healthier choices among our youth."

The winner of the middle school competition was Russell Middle School.

Jamee Twinam, LPN, who leads the Smoking Cessation program at GCHD and organized the contest, remains concerned about vaping among the students across Greenup County, saying, "After doing surveys within the schools some of the students just want someone to hear them and talk to them about vaping along with the anxiety they experience. We want students to know they are heard, and we want to assist them in any way we can."
