Greenville County Schools will continue with eLearning Thursday to account for ongoing icy conditions on roadways and school campuses after a winter storm hit the Upstate.

The school district said in a news release Wednesday afternoon there continues to be significant issues with ice on school campuses despite efforts from the district's maintenance crews this week.

All school district activities are cancelled for Thursday, along with the closure of school facilities and offices.

The school district is an approved eLearning district, so this week's school closures will not result in students and faculty having to make up those days as instruction will be provided through Google Classroom.

Students can complete eLearning assignments at a later date if they are unable to participate in eLearning due to power outages, lack of internet service, or other barriers. Once normal school operations resume, school personnel will begin rescheduling events as appropriate, the statement said.

Record snowfall blanketed Greenville County and the Upstate over the weekend, prompting an eLearning day for Tuesday and Wednesday. On Monday, schools were already closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The school district will continue to monitor conditions across the county to determine when in-person school can safely resume.
