Greenville County Schools will finish out the week with e-Learning due to the lingering icy conditions from last weekend's winter storm.

"The District’s ICE (Inclement Conditions Evaluation) Team went out this afternoon and determined that there are numerous areas of hard-packed, frozen roads throughout the county making certain areas impassible for vehicles and buses," said GCS spokesperson Tim Waller in a release.

Road temperatures remain low and the forecast calls freezing temperatures from 4 a.m. on Friday to noon on Saturday, which can cause refreezing, black ice, and unsafe travel conditions.

School facilities and offices will be closed Friday and all school district activities are canceled.

Since the district is an approved e-Learning district, this week will not have to be made up and instruction will be provided through Google Classroom.

If students are unable to participate due to power outages, lack of internet service, or other barriers, they will be allowed to complete e-Learning assignments later. Once operations resume, school personnel will begin rescheduling events as appropriate.

GCS will continue to monitor conditions and compare forecast models to determine when in-person schools can safely resume.
