Greenville County Schools switches to eLearning day Wednesday due to icy roads

Greenville County Schools is switching to another eLearning day Wednesday to account for icy conditions on roadways after a winter storm in the Upstate.

All school district activities are cancelled for Wednesday, the district announced in a statement Tuesday. School facilities and offices will also be closed.

The school district is an approved eLearning district, so Tuesday and Wednesday school closures will not result in students and faculty having to make up those days as instruction will be provided through Google Classroom.

Students can complete eLearning assignments at a later date if they are unable to participate in eLearning due to power outages, lack of internet service, or other barriers. Once normal school operations resume, school personnel will begin rescheduling events as appropriate, the statement said.

Record snowfall blanketed Greenville County and the Upstate over the weekend, prompting an eLearning day for Tuesday. On Monday, schools were already closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The school district will continue to monitor conditions across the county and compare forecast models to determine when in-person school can safely resume.

The Greenville News will continue to provide updates for the latest information on school closings and delays and can also be found on Greenville County Schools' website.
