Greenville News refreshes comics page lineup based on reader input, changing tastes

My favorite comic strips growing up were Blondie, Beetle Bailey, Family Circus, Dennis the Menace and Peanuts.

As I grew older, I started to enjoy Shoe, For Better or Worse, Wizard of Id and Pearls Before Swine.

The comic strips were my introduction to my hometown newspaper. Luckily, our neighbor, a schoolteacher, would share her newspaper with our family. She wanted to share with us the gift of reading. Every day after she finished her morning paper, she would drop it into our mailbox. So, my four brothers and sisters would lie on the bed and read the comic pages from cover to cover.

The Greenville News understands the importance of the comics pages to our readers. They are important to us too.

That’s why we continuously evaluate our comics content and listen to our readers' suggestions.

After conducting a survey, the Greenville News and Greenvilleonline.com will introduce a revamped and updated comics section on Monday, Jan. 15. Your updated package will incorporate beloved favorites including Blondie, Beetle Bailey, Garfield, and Peanuts.

Your lineup will include most of the following comic strips: Zits, Family Circus, Hagar, Dennis the Menace, For Better or Worse, Baby Blues, Pickles, Fox Trot, Pearls Before Swine, Jump Street, Ziggy, Marmaduke, Non-Sequitur, Crabgrass, Crankshaft, Luann, Baldo, Frank & Ernest and Born Loser, Close to Home, Argyle Sweater, Mother Goose, Rose Is Rose, Wizard of Id, B.C., Hi & Lois, Mutts, Curtis, Shoe, Sally Forth and Dustin.

For the next three Sundays, we will be printing stories inside our news sections to get readers excited about the upcoming revamp.
