Greenville restaurant news: Harry's Hoagies Shop, more open. West Greenville bakery closing

Over the past month, restaurant openings and closings across Greenville County include the closing of a 28-year-old Indian restaurant, the arrival of a North Carolina-based coffee establishment in Taylors, Rick Erwin's West End Grill reopening and more.

A taste of California is headed to Greer as a popular burger chain arrives soon, while a Taylors favorite is expanding to Fountain Inn.

According to DHEC, Greenville is one of the most rapidly growing areas in the state for food and dining. Between January and the end of July, 252 new retail food establishments have opened across the county. Over the same time span, there have been 151 closures, meaning a net gain of 101 new establishments.

Wild Wings Cafe at 1025 Woodruff Rd. has officially filed for bankruptcy, according to the company's public relations representative Jessica Graham.

The former Mike's Philly Cheesesteaks has left Gather Greenville for a new location.

Here are the most recent openings and closings around Greenville County:

Harry's Hoagies Shoppe, once Mike's Cheesesteak of Gather, now in Overbrook

If you're missing the cheesesteaks fixin' at Gather Greenville in the West End, a rebrand and move have taken place.

Mike's Cheesesteaks has relocated to 1700a E. North St. and is now Harry's Hogies Shoppe.

"I'm very grateful for the love and support we have received. We've had a lot of our guests from Gather come on over," said Michelle Pavlakos, co-owner of Harry's Hogies Shoppe. "We tell everyone it's the same food and people, just a new location."

Like Mike's Cheesesteaks, Harry's will still import bread from Lisco's Bakery in New Jersey. Their temporary hours of operation are Tuesday through Thursday 11 to 5, with expanded hours coming after Labor Day.

West Greenville's Basta Bakery set to close in September

The vegan bakery known for its banana loaf bread, sweet rolls and blondie brownies will be closing on Sept, 23, as confirmed by store owner Alexis Krcelic to The Greenville News.

What began in October of 2020, and expanded out to a second location in Easley, will be closing due to the rigors of maintaining a business alongside personal responsibilities, Krcelic told The Greenville News.

"Running a food business is one of the most stressful and exhausting things," he added. "Doing all of this wasn't for me. But I'll still be baking cakes for people from home."

Perch Gastropub in downtown closes

Due to "complications" and "multiple factors" in operating the downtown gastropub, according to a Facebook post, Perch Gastropub at 1501-101 E. North St. announced its closing on Aug. 5.

Perch announced their sentiments of closing down, after only a year in business:

Perch was known for its wide selection of craft beers served in glass boots, specialty handheld sandwiches and outdoor dining decor.

The Farehouse in Fountain Inn

Located at 111 N. Main St. in Fountain Inn, a second new location of The Farehouse will open in September of 2023. The menu will be similar to the Taylors Mill location of brunch, daily food specials and handcrafted cocktails.

An update was posted to their Instagram account in late July:

"With the construction phase nearing completion, we are excited to complete the rest of the buildout and start serving the wonderful community in Fountain Inn," said Cristy Marut, owner of The Farehouse.

Marut said the only menu difference in Fountain Inn is that flatbreads will replace pizza and there will be expanded lunch options.
