Greenville's best restaurants to celebrate National Ice Cream Day. What you need to know

There is no better way to beat the summer heat than to have some ice cream to celebrate the frozen treat on National Ice Cream Day on Sunday, July 16. Have a fun adventure by finding Greenville'sbest ice cream deals.

While a longtime downtown staple like Luna Rose has closed in recent years, there are still many unique parlors like Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar in the West End, Creme Shack downtown, and even Andy's Frozen Custard in Greer.

Bruster's Ice Cream is offering sweepstakes on the holiday that gives away free ice cream to 10 people for a year, and Dairy Queen will offer a deal on its mobile app closer to the day. Our local ice cream scene has plenty of flavors and deals to offer.

Some treats at the top of the list include "Double Stuffed" or "Man Flower" from Better Than Sex Dessert Restaurant. And the apple caramel cake at Larkin's features a house-made cinnamon ice cream.

"It's a fun industry, where you deal with all types of people," said Candy Wilson, operating manager at Dillard's on Mauldin Road. "Ice cream causes people to have a good feeling. No one comes in to get ice cream to become upset. That's why I love it."

Here are some of the best ways to celebrate National Ice Cream Day and the flavors in the Upstate:

Pop's Cabin Creamery

A hidden ice cream gem at 101 E. Butler Road in Mauldin is best known for its Rocky Road for the past three years. The space is owned and operated by Don Deas.

  • Flavors for the weekend include rainbow sherbet, chocolate chip cookie dough, Columbian café, strawberry cheesecake, and salted caramel cheesecake.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams

Jeni's is an ice cream franchise with storefronts in 16 states, offering their package of flavors called: The Road Trips Collection which will release a new flavor each week. The ice cream shop will start with High Five Candy Bar beginning the week of National Ice Cream Day and lasting through mid-August.

  • Flavors part of the collection include salted licorice, frozen sorbet, Bombastix Sundae Cone, and butterscotch popcorn.

Pink Mama's Travelers Rest

Ice cream and animal petting collide at Pink Mamas in Travelers Rest. Charlie and Ollie, two alpacas, will be the featured attraction at 11 S. Main St. this Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dillard's

The main location in Greer has been a longtime favorite to the Upstate, but the Dillard's near Conestee is a great alternative for flavorful ice cream.

  • Flavors for the weekend include Swamp Rabbit, which is a dark chocolate ice cream with caramel sauce, and chocolate-covered cashews. Other treats include peanut butter caramel cookies and raspberry chip cheesecake, and Charleston Sea Salt.

Marble Slab Creamery

Walk along downtown Greenville and one can't help but notice Marble Slab Creamery at 651 S. Main St. The ice cream shop takes all of our favorite candies and toppings and meshes them into one dynamic treat.

For National Ice Cream Day, the creamery will reward members with one free small ice cream per person.

  • Flavors for the weekend: cinnamon toast crunch bits, Snicker's milkshake, and fudge brownie ice cream
