Greenwalt named volleyball coach for Lady Rams

Apr. 22—PORTALES — When the Portales High volleyball team takes the court next year, there will be only one Bailey on the sideline.

PHS has named Bailey (Rowley) Greenwalt to replace Jacki Bailey as its volleyball coach.

"I'm really excited to bring our legacy back and show what it means to me," Greenwalt said. "I'm excited to bring our legacy back and show what Portales means to me.

"It means a lot to give back to the community."

A 2016 PHS grad, Greenwalt served as an assistant for two years under Jacki Bailey, who resigned the position recently. She will continue to teach in the system and serve as an assistant for the track program.

Greenwalt played volleyball and golf for the Lady Rams in high school. She went on to play golf at Lubbock Christian, graduating in 2020, then spent a year teaching at Frenship H.S. in Wolfforth, Texas before returning to Portales in 2021.

In golf, she finished fifth in the Class 4A state tournament in 2015 and sixth in 2016.

Along with her volleyball duties at PHS, Greenwalt also serves as the school's golf coach.

The Lady Rams (9-14 in 2022) will lose five seniors from that squad to graduation, but Greenwalt thinks they'll be in good shape.

"We have a strong group returning, and they're great leaders," she said. "We have a great bunch of girls and parents to be around."
