Longtime Upstate music scene staple The Spinning Jenny has announced that it will be closing in October.

In a Facebook post Wednesday morning, owners Sharon Murry and Sarah Betancourt announced that the building had been sold to a developer and the business would be closing. Their last show is scheduled for Oct. 6.

The Spinning Jenny has been bringing music acts, craft shows and more to 107 Cannon St. in downtown Greer for eight years.

Some of the artists who performed there over the years include Jump Little Children, bluesman Mac Arnold and Greer native Noah Guthrie of "Glee" fame.

The building itself has a long history, having been built more than 70 years ago, according to property records. Some of its previous uses included a feed and seed, The Great Skate, a roller skating rink, and the Greer Opry House.
