Who is Greg Wallis? Candidate's credentials are thin

You can't tell by the proliferation of campaign signs stuck in the sand all along our city highways. This is because the candidate has failed to show what political office he is running for, the 47th Assembly District, nor his party affiliation, Republican. Seems strange if not nefarious.

Greg Wallis, pictured above, will run as a Republican for Assembly District 47, which includes several Coachella Valley cities.

Mr. Wallis has less than 10 years of business experience and that was as a professional Sacramento lobbyist and an assistant/aide to long-term politicians.

His radio commercial is a negative attack ad against his opponent, Christy Holstege, an elected city council member and former mayor of Palm Springs.

The Wallis ad completely distorts and misrepresents Holstege's major positions on healthcare and taxes, while only addressing "pie in the sky" tax cuts as his goal.

Could it be that young Mr. Wallis, with no real hands-on government experience, just wants to be a career politician at a taxpayer-paid salary of $119,702?

In La Quinta mayoral election, Sylk deserves support

This is regarding Robert Sylk running for mayor in La Quinta. I moved here from Marina del Rey and have worked closely with Robert in the past. He was president of the City of Hope and started the chapter in MDR and Venice with over 500 members.

He served on numerous councils and boards in the community such as Beaches and Harbors, Bob Hope's USO and the California Tourism and Trade Commission in an exemplary fashion. I worked with him when he put on our famous Food and Wine and Music and Art Festivals in Marina del Rey. He ran our Chamber of Commerce and was an honorary mayor and flew to Moscow on a mission for President George Bush Sr. and went to New Zealand to help win back the America's Cup.

He made a difference in our community and I know he can do the same for La Quinta if given the opportunity to serve as mayor.

Thank you for allowing me to share my thoughts about Robert Sylk. Hopefully, he will be elected as La Quinta's new mayor.
