Greta Thunberg seeks to trademark her name

Her Fridays for Future movement of young student protesters around the world catapulted her into fame.

Now teen activist Greta Thunberg has applied to trademark her name, and that of the movement.

Announcing the move on Instagram, Thunberg said it would allow for legal action against people or companies using her name or the movement's for commercial purposes that are not in line with its values.

Thunberg said she has also applied to trademark the phrase "school strike for the climate" in Swedish.

That's the wording on the placard she has held since she started her one-person protest outside the Swedish parliament in 2018.

Thunberg and her fellow young activists in the movement want politicians to listen to climate scientists, and take what they call real action to curb global warming.
