Grey's Anatomy star Jesse Williams has signed on for a new project with Breaking Bad director Adam Bernstein.

Deadline reports Williams is set to star in and produce Costiera for Prime Video with Bernstein at the helm.

The drama, which is set in Italy, is based on an idea by Luca Bernabei, with a script from Elena Bucaccio, Matthew Parkhill, and Francesco Arlanch.

Williams will play Daniel De Luca, a half-Italian former U.S. marine who returns to Italy, where he was raised, to be a fixer in a luxury hotel on the Positano coastline.

The synopsis reads: "Shortly after Daniel, or DD as everybody knows him, starts working at the hotel, one of the owner's daughters disappears. He must do whatever it takes to find her and bring her home while still solving the ever-changing problems of the exclusive hotel guests."

Speaking about the project, Bernstein said: "It's an amazing opportunity for me to work with Jesse Williams on Costiera. I've always admired his work – both on stage and screen, and he's the first actor that came to my mind for the role of Daniel De Luca.

"Jesse provides a perfect combination of intelligence, charisma, and humour, and we're incredibly lucky to have him at the center of our show."

The series is currently in production, with a release date to follow.

Williams left Greys in 2021, after playing Dr Jackson Avery for over a decade. A year later he returned to the show as a guest star.

Speaking about possibly returning to the medical drama more permanently, Williams said: "They ask me to direct [an episode] once a year. I always loved that place. I'm always happy to entertain the idea of coming back to direct or make an appearance. The door is open for me. It's almost like a reunion, a university. I'm an alumni of a university."

Grey's Anatomy season 20 and Station 19's final season will premiere on March 14, 2024 on ABC in the US. Both shows stream on Disney+ in the UK.
