Griffins falter in soccer loss to Voyager Academy
Sep. 23—DURHAM — After starting the week with a 7-2 victory over Excelsior Classical Academy, Oxford Prep entered Durham with a chance to capture its first undefeated week of the season.
Unfortunately, the Griffins were unable to continue their momentum, dropping a 1A North Triangle Conference soccer matchup on Thursday as Voyager Academy prevailed 8-0.
The offensive attack for the Griffins created multiple scoring opportunities and advantages against the Viking defense, but they were unable to cash in.
Although the loss drops Oxford Prep to 2-9 on the season, the Griffins have improved throughout the course of the year, winning two of their last four matches.
In those two victories, they outscored their opponents 14-2, showcasing growth on offense and a positive outlook for the upcoming schedule.
Oxford Prep will continue league play on Tuesday when it hosts Roxboro Community (2-8-1), the two schools' first meeting of the season.
