The Grinch Is the Best Real Estate Agent Ever
Whoever said Mr. Grinch was as charming as an eel was seriously mistaken. While some real estate agents rely on traditional tactics to sell a home-open houses, classifieds listings, word of mouth-the agents at Berkshire Hathaway PenFed Realty in Baltimore took a decidedly more unexpected approach, enlisting the ultimate bad seed to turn up the charm on a three-bedroom, three-bath home going for $374,000 in Baltimore, Maryland’s Hampden neighborhood.
“I just thought it was hilarious,” listing agent Christina Dudley recently told Apartment Therapy of the creative sales ploy. “Some people think it’s a terrible ideas and it’s creepy, but it gets people talking and sharing on social media.” When we chatted with her she added, “Anything that makes people smile and gets people talking is a good thing. The key is exposure.”
They’ve got it in spades. According to Dudley, who partnered with fellow agent Michael Frank on the listing, the team has been fielding calls from reporters across the country-and hosting round-the-clock listings for the historic stunner.
It certainly doesn’t hurt that the residence is cuter than the average Whoville house, with a completely renovated interior that blends historical accents like exposed original brick with a modern aesthetic-think an open kitchen-living room layout, stainless steel appliances, and two porches.
But it’s The Grinch who steals the show. One minute he’s enjoying a cup of cocoa at the dining table, the next he’s showering and choosing his least festive ensemble. Dare we say he looks like he’s actually enjoying himself? So much for having an empty hole for a heart.
