Grisham delivering for Padres, fantasy managers

Drew Silva details why OF Trent Grisham is so important to the San Diego Padres' lineup, and why fantasy managers have to be happy with his production thus far.

DREW SILVA: It's probably far more than just a coincidence that the Padres were stretched as a team so far this season. Came when center fielder Trent Grisham was on the injured list for a little under three weeks between late May and early to mid-June with a contusion at the back of his left foot. He's that important to the overall lineup construction in San Diego. And his dynamic fantasy output continues to rise here in his age 24 campaign.

Dating back to the beginning of the 2020 season and stretching to mid-June of this season, Grisham has racked up 18 home runs and 17 stolen bases over his last 100 games played. That works out to 162 game pace of 30 home runs and 28 stolen bases, nearly 30-30. There was some worry coming into this year that Grisham might either be benched or bat toward the bottom of San Diego's lineup against left handed pitching. But his lefty-righty splits really aren't all that drastic and he has mostly hit either leadoff or second for manager Jace Tingler in 2021. If he can maintain good health the rest of the way, a 20 homer, 20 steal season, or maybe even 25-25, could be the end result.
