UPDATE: Ja Morant has been ruled out due to injury ahead of the Memphis Grizzlies' Game 2 matchup against the L.A. Lakers.

The Memphis Grizzlies are playing their cards close in regards to Ja Morant's playing status. During Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins' pregame media availability, he said Morant will be a gametime decision for Game 2 against the Los Angeles Lakers (6:30 p.m., TNT).

Morant injured his right hand in Game 1 with 5:48 left in the fourth quarter. X-rays were negative, but Morant described his pain tolerance as a 10. Jenkins described the hand injury as a soft tissue bruise.

"He's feeling a little bit better," Jenkins said. "He's got some more tests to do, so it's going to be gametime decision for sure. Steadily improving like I mentioned yesterday, so it's kind of been an hour to hour improvement."

On Tuesday, Morant started dribbling and shooting with his right hand, but Jenkins said there was still some stiffness.

If Morant doesn't play, Tyus Jones is expected to start at point guard.
