Aldi, self-storage space among businesses planned for Louisville library site

Local developers are proposing new amenities for the site of the former East Government Center off Shelbyville Road in Middletown.

An Aldi and Citadel Self Storage are planned for the property at 200 Juneau Drive, according to documents submitted to Louisville Metro Government this month.

A nearly 22,000-square-foot grocery store would be situated on the east side of the site, currently a parking lot for the former library and government center.

A mixed-use building − containing 4,400 square feet of first-floor retail and office space with two additional floors of climate-controlled storage units − would be located on the western side of the property, where the old government building still stands.

Plans call for the demolition of existing building to make way for the new construction.

Hogan Holdings 82 LLC, tied to Louisville-based Hogan Real Estate, bought the property and some nearby parcels in August 2021 for $4.2 million, according to the Jefferson County Property Valuation Administration.

The development plans have yet to secure city approval. A spokesman for Hogan Real Estate said the company didn't have a development timeline available and could not confirm future tenants.

A new Aldi would be the seventh Jefferson County location for the German grocery chain.
