Gropp earns Harry Hunt Memorial Scholarship at KLCC

Luke Gropp, 2022 graduate of White Pigeon High School, is the inaugural recipient of the Harry Hunt Memorial Scholarship.

Gropp was presented the award last week during the 68th annual men’s Klinger Lake Country Club Invitational.

This year’s invitational saw five flights take place. The format for the tournament saw 54 holes played by each pairing in all five of the flights. There is also an 85 percent handicap for each team. Klinger Lake CC PGA Professional Pat Hagerty said this year’s teams could be made up of member-guest, member-member or event select guest-guest.

Ed Culp and Denny Goodpaster won first place for the first flight. They shot a team score of 190 for 54 holes, finishing five shots ahead of second-place finishing Trevor Page and Andrew Schubert. Brent Schroeder and John Barnes carded a team score of 196 in their 54 holes, good for third place in the top flight.

The winners of the second flight this year were Riley Wentzel and Garrett Barnes, they fired a team score of 192. Finishing second in that flight was John Wuori and John Greider, they finished at 202. Jeff Davis and Tom Krouse carded a 206 for third place in the second flight.

Aaron Keyer and Mac Church teammed up to win the third flight at 198. Jon Keyer and Alex Keyer shot a team score of 201 for second place, the team of Rick Roth and Chris Bowers fired a 202 for third place overall in the third flight.

Finishing with first place in the fourth flight was the team of Sam Adams and Corey Poller at 196. Ryan Banaszak and Chad Spence’s score of 200 for 54 holes was good for second place. Gary Day and Mike Wood shot 206 for third.

In the fifth flight, Andy Bird and Doug Bird came home with an 11-shot win. They fired a team score of 198 for 54 holes. Tying in second place were the teams of Bob Lewis and Mike White and Steve Deter and Ken Lampe, they each scored 207 for 54 holes.

There were also a handful of extra events for this year’s invite. Wuori and Greider took home first place in the net shoot-out, Banaszak and Spence finished as the runner-up.

In gross shoot-out, the team of Goodpaster and Culp brought home first place. Runner-up honors went to the team of John Barnes and Brent Schroeder.

Dave Clark Jr. won this year’s putting contest.
