Ground Shakes During Quake Insurance Debate in Liechtenstein Parliament

A debate on earthquake insurance in the parliament of Liechtenstein was interrupted on Thursday, September 1, when tremors shook the building, causing the session to be temporarily stopped.

Footage streamed by Landtag Liechtenstein shows politician Bettina Petzold-Mahr speaking on the effect of earthquake damage on the country’s residents. As she speaks, a small tremor shakes the camera.

Petzold-Mahr laughs and says: “And the chamber shakes.”

Less than a minute later, a larger tremor shakes the camera. Petzold-Mahr can be seen looking around before an off-camera voice announces a 15-minute break and politicians can be seen filing out of the chamber.

The State Police of the Principality of Liechtenstein said in a statement on Thursday that magnitude 2.4 and 3.9 earthquakes had hit the country shortly before 2 pm local time on Thursday. No injuries or damage caused by the quakes were reported, the statement added. Credit: Landtag Liechtenstein via Storyful
