Groundbreaking California Reparations Task Force holds first public meeting in Sacramento

California’s Reparations Task Force will begin its two-day session in Sacramento on Friday. With the purpose of creating proposals for reparations owed to African Americans in California impacted by slavery, the public is encouraged to comment as the first-in-the-nation task force develops proposals. Last year, the nine-member Reparations Task Force identified 12 areas of systemic discrimination that still impact descendants of American slaves in the state, but they're focusing on potential compensation – and its distribution – in five areas.
