Growth In Darien Virus Cases Falls: County

DARIEN, IL — The growth in Darien's coronavirus cases fell in the last week, according to the DuPage County Health Department.

As of Sunday, Darien had 1,284 coronavirus cases, up 55 from a week before, or a 4.5 percent increase. That is down from the previous week's 7.5 percent hike.

The number of local deaths from the coronavirus stayed the same in the last week, totaling 16. That works out to less than a thousandth of Darien's population.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

Darien's rate of increase in coronavirus cases of 4.5 percent was higher than DuPage County's 3.9 percent hike in the last week. Darien makes up 2.3 percent of the county's population, but only 2 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload.

As of Sunday, Darien had 59.4 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 56.2 in La Grange Park, 60.8 in Western Springs, 62.8 in Hinsdale, 68.2 in DuPage County, 70 in Elmhurst, 71 in Clarendon Hills, 75 in suburban Cook County, 76.9 in Burr Ridge and 83.5 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,024,039, up 4.6 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 17,494 state residents.

Nationally, 21.9 million people have caught the virus, up 7.4 percent from the week before. A total of 367,652 people have died from the virus in the United States.

The U.S. had already reached its maximum distribution capacity, and new doses distributors were expecting next week weren't coming, the Post reports.HHS spokesperson Michael Pratt confirmed in an email to the Post that the last of the reserve had been taken out for shipment this weekend. He didn't acknowledge Azar's comments, but said Operation Warp Speed had "always intended to transition from holding second doses in reserve as manufacturing stabilizes and we gained confidence in the ability for a consistent flow of vaccines." he also said states had only ordered 75 percent of the vaccines available to them. It aims to resume the service on Monday. Paperwork has to be approved before consignments can be sent to DFDS's warehouse in South Lanarkshire and then on to English Channel ports. In her letter to the Prime Minister, Ms McDonald said: "Many fishing vessels are tied to the quay wall.” She added: "This industry now finds itself in the worst of both worlds. Your deal leaves us with shares that not only fall very far short of zonal attachment, but in many cases fail to ‘bridge the gap’ compared to historic catches, and with no ability to leverage more fish from the EU, as they have full access to our waters. "This, coupled with the chaos experienced since 1st January in getting fish to market means that many in our industry now fear for their future, rather than look forward to it with optimism and ambition."
