Guam wife accused of murder for hire plot

HAGATNA, Guam (AP) — A Guam woman is charged with offering someone land, cash and a sport utility vehicle to poison her husband.

Myrna Castro Evans was charged Thursday with solicitation to commit aggravated murder.

According to court documents, Evans told one of her employees at an unidentified business, "I want you to kill my husband," the Pacific Daily News (http://ow.ly/uyZx6 ) reported. The documents claim she offered him "land, cash and an FJ Cruiser" if he poisoned her husband.

The man agreed, but then went to the husband and told him about the plot, the court documents said. The husband told the employee to continue pretending to carry out the plan in an attempt to "gather more evidence."

When the man met with Evans on March 11, he secretly recorded the conversation with his cellphone as they allegedly discussed poisoning the husband that evening. According to the court documents, when police later confronted Evans, she immediately replied, "Is my husband OK?"

Evans was ordered held on $250,000 cash bail. Defense attorney Phillip Torres declined to comment on the allegations, but he told the Associated Press he plans to file a bail-reduction motion on Monday.

Prosecutors said the husband had recently taken out a $300,000 life insurance policy.

In arguing for the bail amount, Assistant Attorney General Gabrielle Rossi said: "Mr. Evans' life is in extreme danger."
