‘Guarantee you’ll have goosebumps’ at special ‘Star Wars’ event planned in Modesto

Watch the film that started it all, while its famed score is performed live on stage.

The Modesto Symphony Orchestra will provide the music to “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope” as the film plays onscreen.

The program is among the upcoming entertainment and events in the greater Modesto region. Also set are country music at The Fruit Yard, the annual peddler’s fair in Arnold and a concert by Golden Bough. Here’s a look at just some of what’s planned May 28 to June 3.

“Star Wars” program

Hear the well-known score live while watching the original “Star Wars” film on screen at the Gallo Center, presented by the Modesto Symphony Orchestra.

It’s the first film in the iconic “Star Wars” series that catapulted Modesto native George Lucas to fame.

The film and concert event will be led by MSO Associate Conductor Ryan Murray. The orchestra will perform John Williams’ musical score live in tandem with the action on screen.

“Star Wars: A New Hope In Concert” is produced under license by Disney Concerts in association with 20th Century Fox and Warner/Chappell Music.

“The Star Wars franchise is beloved by so many and we are thrilled to be able to present A New Hope in its entirety with our full orchestra performing John Williams’ score live,” Caroline Nickel, MSO president and CEO, said in a press release. “This has to be one of the most iconic film scores ever written and we guarantee you’ll have goosebumps when you see the opening titles with the full force of an orchestra performing live.”
