Disney has unveiled the first look at Adam Warlock's MCU debut in the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

James Gunn has one more Marvel adventure left before he officially relaunches competitor the Worlds of DC and this teaser hints at a rousing send-off for the Guardians.

The first footage shows the Guardians in battle with both the aforementioned Warlock and the villainous High Evolutionary, with Rocket telling Quill he's tired of running from the fight.

After their festive adventure with Kevin Bacon in the Disney+ Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Peter Quill and the gang have to contend with a variant of Gamora that now leads the Ravagers.

Little do they know that bigger problems are on the horizon because the High Evolutionary (Peacemaker's Chukwudi Iwuji) plans to radically evolve the universal population to create a so-called perfect race.

"No matter what happens next, the galaxy still needs its Guardians," Peter Quill insists in the teaser.

As mentioned, James Gunn has hinted that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be his final work for Marvel now that he's joined with Peter Safran to head up DC's movie and TV slate at Warner Bros.

When quizzed on his future with Marvel, the director recently told Entertainment Tonight: "I mean, never say never. Who knows? But for the time being, yeah, [this is it]."

Gunn is establishing some important new MCU characters on his way out the door, as Will Poulter is making his debut as the long-awaited character Adam Warlock.

Zoe Saldana has also hinted that the film may be the last time fans will see her character Gamora, as she described the film as a "sweet departure".

"[Filming] started bitter in the beginning cause obviously you're anticipating the end, but I'm just so happy that once again I got to work with great people," she told Entertainment Weekly.

"I had an evolution that I witnessed of myself, but also my director and my cast. I just felt very blessed and grateful. It was a very sweet departure, I have to say."
