Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan sharing chess love with fans, John Marshall High School

Cleveland Guardians center fielder Steven Kwan will sign the new Guardians Chess Club T-shirt at the Team Shop at Progressive Field Saturday.

At 11 a.m., Golden Glove Award-winner Kwan will sign the shirt, which will be available for purchase when the store opens at 10 a.m. for the first 100 fans in line who have bought the new release.

Chess games have become a popular pastime in the Guardians clubhouse courtesy of Kwan, who shared his love of the game with teammates. Some play daily matches and host the John Marshall Chess Club at the ballpark for exhibition tournaments.

“Chess is a huge passion of mine, and I’ve been extremely fortunate to play against some of the best that the Cleveland Metropolitan School District has to offer over the last year,” Kwan said in a release. “I’m excited to partner with Homage to create the official Guardians Chess Club shirt and continue to share my passion for the game with the entire Cleveland community.”

A percentage of the proceeds from sales of the shirt with CMSC Chess Clubs. Students from the John Marshall Chess Club will be at Progressive Field to play with fans.
