NEW YORK — Let's try this again.

Game 5 of the American League Division Series between the Guardians and New York Yankees was postponed by rain Monday night, so Tuesday at 4:07 p.m. it is.

Aaron Civale will take the mound for the Guardians, though he'll likely have a short leash.

Mr. Everything:Jose Ramirez tries to keep Cleveland Guardians' playoff chase alive with his glove

The Guardians' bullpen was well rested and perfectly set up for a Game 5 Monday night, while the Yankees' best arms in the bullpen were heavily used over the weekend. The extra day will even the playing field a bit in that regard.

Guardians drop Game 5, series to Yankees

Top 9th: The Guardians will be returning to Cleveland. Their postseason run is over. The Yankees have taken Game 5 by a score of 5-1 after New York jumped out to an early lead. The Yankees take the series 3-2.

Bottom 8th: The Guardians haven't been able to create much operating room against the Yankees bullpen, and will now need at least a four-run inning in the bottom of the ninth to extend their season.

Guardians have 12 outs left, trailing 5-1

Top 6th: The Guardians enter the sixth now into the Yankee bullpen, as Jonathan Loaisiga has taken over for Cortes, who allowed one run on three hits in five innings.

Anthony Rizzo extended the Yankees' lead to 5-1 with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.

A questionable call at first base goes unchallenged

Top 4th: The fourth inning ended on an odd note. With two outs and nobody on, Andres Gimenez grounded a ball to Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo. The two had a foot race to the bag and both dove. Gimenez was called out, though replays and a screen grab of one angle suggested Gimenez was safe. The Guardians, though, never challenged the call.

Guardians make it 4-1 in third

Top 3rd: The Guardians loaded the bases against Nestor Cortes and brought Jose Ramirez to the plate, an ideal scenario considering the dire situation they're in. Ramirez didn't miss a score-tying grand slam by much, drilling a ball down the left-field line that eventually landed foul. He settled for an RBI sacrifice fly that cut the Yankee lead to 4-1.

For the Guardians, Trevor Stephan is entering the game for the bottom of the third.

Aaron Judge makes it 4-0 Yankees with home run

Bottom 2nd: Aaron Judge joined Stanton in aiming for that right-field wall. Facing Sam Hentges, Judge belted a solo home run, pushing New York's lead to 4-0.

The Guardians' backs are completely against the wall against Nestor Cortes and, eventually, the Yankee bullpen.

Giancarlo Stanton home run puts Yankees up 3-0

Bottom 1st: Aaron Civale's command hasn't been there today. He's out of the game after five hitters.

Civale walked Gleyber Torres on four pitches to begin the first inning. With one out, he hit Anthony Rizzo. And Giancarlo Stanton then drilled a three-run home run to the short porch in right field.

Civale's day lasted all of five hitters after Josh Donaldson followed Stanton's home run with a single. Sam Hentges is in.

Top 1st: Steven Kwan opened with a line-drive single to left field, but Nestor Cortes retired the next three in order and is through the first inning.

Guardians ace Shane Bieber will be in bullpen for Game 5

Pregame: Shane Bieber will be in the bullpen, but it sounds as though he'll be used more so as a last resort than anything.

Bieber, who started Friday's Game 2, would be on three days of rest, like Cortes. Guardians manager Terry Francona said, "If we empty our bullpen, he's there," indicating that Bieber is more of a safety net if needed than anything. Though, of course, that can change. If Bieber doesn't pitch and the Guardians advance to Wednesday's ALCS, he would start Game 1 in Houston.
