Guatemalans returned: ICE's latest repatriation
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement continues to repatriate migrants by the hundreds in the wake of a major shift in border policy.
ICE removed 103 Guatemalans on a flight to Guatemala City from El Paso on June 2. Passengers included 21 women and 82 men, an ICE spokeswoman said, ranging in age from 18 to 48 years. It was the latest among dozens of repatriation flights this month, including many departing El Paso.
Title 42 expulsions ended on May 12, and U.S. border authorities began processing migrants under Title 8, which contains the nation's immigration law. The law includes pathways for migrants to apply to remain in the country, and it includes avenues for the U.S. government to remove or deport those who don't qualify to stay.
The agency's air transportation division removes noncitizens using commercial airlines and chartered flights.
ICE has been promoting its removal flights as part of the Biden administration's messaging campaign to discourage migrants from making the dangerous journey to the U.S. border.
