Guerin tops Lebanon in volleyball

Sep. 7—LEBANON — The Lebanon volleyball team has had some great moments so far this season.

But what they are searching for now is the consistency to have those moments every match they step on the court.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, that consistency eluded them on Tuesday night against Guerin Catholic as Lebanon fell 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-18).

"We have been trying a lot of new things and the girls are practicing really hard," Lebanon head coach Emily Vanatsky said. "We aren't quite in the shape we want to be in, and that is affecting a lot. When our front rows on, our back rows not and vice versa. We just have to find that happy medium."

That lack of consistency showed up from set-to-set on Tuesday.

The Tigers battled throughout every sit and were right there with the Golden Eagles for almost the entirety of the set.

But when it got down to crunch time, Guerin had a push the Tigers couldn't match.

"We have to work on finishing those tight sets," Vanatsky said. "We have to go out and win those tough points, not wait back for them to make a mistake. We are getting there, it's just a slow process. But I am seeing good progress."

Sydnie Starkey and Lex Barr each had six kills for the Tigers, and Grace Braner had five.

Audrey Butler had nine assists and nine digs in the match. Alli Albea had seven assists and 11 digs and Charli Albea had 13 digs.

Vanatsky said there was a lot the Tigers could take away from facing a strong team like Guerin.

"We can learn a lot about reading a hitter," Vanatsky said. "We have to learn the cues the other teams are giving us on the court. We are slowly making those adjustments we need, we just aren't quite there every match."

The Tigers travel to Frankfort on Thursday to take on the Hot Dogs.

"We really just want to work on connecting as a unit," Vanatsky said. "We want to make sure it's not just the front row or back row on, it's all six girl on the court."
