It turns out the top-selling spirit of 2023 was bourbon, and for wine it was California cabernet sauvignon.
Wine and spirits sales in Pennsylvania totaled $3.15 billion according to The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board 2022-2023 report, an increase of almost 4.5% compared to last year.
The PLCB regulates the distribution of alcohol in Pennsylvania through about 600 retail and wholesale sales locations statewide. It also licenses 20,000 alcohol producers, retailers and handlers.
According to the PLCB, the state's top-selling spirit was 50 ml bottles of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky, totaling $4,105,401 in sales, which makes sense considering all the tiny Fireball liquor bottles scattered across the sidewalks in York.

Wines that exhibited the most unit sales growth during the fiscal year included Taylor Port, and Josh Cellars Chardonnay. The top wine of the year was the 750 ml bottle of La Marca Prosecco, which totaled $13,936,810 in sales and sold 855,820 units.
Covering the fiscal year of July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023, Alleghany County was ranked first for top sales in the state, with a total of $352,297,559 in sales. Our red rose neighbors in Lancaster County ranked eighth with $81,411,066 and York County ranked 10th, with sales totaling $73,414,449.
