The El Paso Chihuahuas will kick off 2023 with a 10th anniversary milestone season, a new manager in Phillip Wellman, plenty of fireworks, fun promotions and new menu items.

This year's lineup includes three giveaways honoring the historic 2023 season, the new Friar Fridays (paying homage to the Chihuahuas' parent club, the San Diego Padres), and two nights featuring the Chihuahuas' new Marvel identity. The season kicks off March 31 with home games against Sugar Land Space Cowboys and ends with a fireworks spectacular.

The 2023 campaign marks the first time the Chihuahuas will play on the Fourth of July with the GECU Independence Day Celebration. The night will feature the pageantry of America and America’s pastime, a Stars & Stripes jersey and New Era cap, and the evening will conclude with an extended Fireworks Spectacular, presented by GECU.

Tasty food at Southwest University Park

This year, executive chef Maria Barragan Hurtado has brought back some old classics to the menu and also has added some healthy options for those who watch what they eat, even at sporting events. Many of the popular options, from burgers to hot dogs, have some kind of spicy kick.

By the way, the chef took top honors among other MLB baseball teams for the most creative and outstanding food. Here are some highlights.

Turkey legs

Those who love carnival foods will be excited to hear the turkey legs are back this year. They haven't been around since 2019.

The turkey legs are massive, so make sure you have lap room; pass the baby if you needed. The legs have a spicy, hickory barbecue sauce and are delicious.

Soft-serve ice cream with churros

You will definitely want to leave room this season for dessert. The menu will include two soft-serve ice cream cups, which are instant souvenirs. One option is to get the soft serve vanilla ice cream topped with sprinkles and two pieces of crispy churro, made in house. The other option is ice cream with bits of brownie, another great choice.
