Your guide to Fourth of July events in Anchorage and Mat-Su
Jul. 3—Looking for ways to get out and celebrate Independence Day? Here's a rundown of July Fourth events in the Anchorage area and Mat-Su:
3rd of July Extravaganza: 6 p.m. Monday, Eagle River
Get your July Fourth celebration off to an early start in Eagle River, where the Lions Club will host the 3rd of July Extravaganza at the Eagle River Lions Club Community Park. The festivities from 6 p.m. to midnight will include food trucks, live music and vendors. Fireworks begin at midnight.
(Individual fireworks are illegal within the Municipality of Anchorage and their use is punishable with a fine of up to $300.)
Anchorage Fourth of July parade and festival: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, downtown Anchorage
Anchorage's main event is a daylong celebration at the Delaney Park Strip downtown, complete with games, carnival rides, food trucks and a beer garden. Live music will include the Ken Peltier Band and Hope Cassity. The parade begins at 11 a.m. and the festival is free to the public.
Alaska Baseball League games: 7 p.m., Tuesday, Mulcahy Stadium
Keep the fun going in Anchorage with an Alaska Baseball League doubleheader game between the city's cross-town rivals. Starting at 7 p.m., see the Anchorage Glacier Pilots face off against the Anchorage Bucs at Mulcahy Stadium.
Wasilla Fourth of July Parade: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Wasilla
In the Mat-Su, Wasilla also will host a July Fourth parade, which will be followed by the Mayor's Picnic at Iditapark from 1-3 p.m. Enjoy live music, food and more.
Fourth of July car launch: 9 a.m. Tuesday, Glacier View
Looking for a more unique way to celebrate Independence Day? Head out to Glacier View for the annual car launch. Gates will open at 9 a.m., and the cars will start to fly around 2 p.m. Food will be available for purchase, and tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children.
