Your guide to the Idaho Statesman’s new publication schedule; plus, 5 new features

Idaho Statesman readers will notice several major changes beginning Monday. Here’s what you need to know — and where you’ll find your favorite content.

Print schedule: We will publish print newspapers on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The Sunday edition actually will arrive on Saturdays. All delivery will be handled by the U.S. Postal Service and most papers will arrive on the scheduled days. The publication schedule occasionally will be tweaked to account for postal holidays.

eEdition schedule: We will continue to publish an eEdition seven days a week, available to read by 6 a.m. The eEdition doesn’t have a traditional deadline; it can include all late-breaking news — things such as City Council meetings, Boise State football and basketball games, and high school sports. The eEdition also includes the massive Extra Extra package of additional news, sports and opinion content.

Website, apps, social media, newsletters: We update our website, apps, social media accounts and newsletters seven days a week.

Where to find your favorite content

News: Each print paper will have more pages of news content, and we’ll continue to place our top journalism in print. Most stories will appear online — on the website and often in the eEdition — before they are featured in the print editions.

Outdoors: Outdoors content will be included in the Sunday Explore section. That section will include outdoors coverage from Nicole Blanchard, fishing columns from Jordan Rodriguez and other activity-based content. It also often will have entertainment stories from Michael Deeds, and once a month Explore will continue to feature the big monthly calendar.

Business: The Business section will publish Wednesdays.

Scene: Our Scene entertainment content will continue to publish Fridays.

Sports: Much of our local sports news will be available only in the eEdition and other digital products. All coverage of Friday night high school football and Saturday Boise State football will be digital exclusives. Our print Sports sections will be heavy on previews and analysis rather than day-to-day results.

Opinion: Opinion will run daily in the eEdition and in each print edition.

Puzzles: Puzzles will be published daily in the eEdition. The print editions will include puzzles from nonprint days — so the Wednesday paper, for example, will have the Monday and Tuesday puzzles, too. We’re also adding activities for young children. The bonus Friday puzzles will continue in print.

Comics: Comics will be published daily in the eEdition. In print, you’ll see the comics scheduled for that day.

TV listings: TV listings, including the sports-specific listings, will be published daily in the eEdition. In print, you’ll see the listings for that specific day. The TV listing grid has doubled in size for every day of the week, adding channels. The TV book will be delivered separately from the Sunday paper.

Weather: Weather will run daily in the eEdition and in each print edition.

Obituaries: Obits will run daily in the eEdition and in each print edition.

Event listings: We’ll continue to publish event listings in print, with entertainment on Friday and outdoors on Sunday. A new digital event listings feature is available at IdahoStatesman.com.

Five new features

eEdition portal: On Monday, we’ll launch a new eEdition portal and reader interface. The new interface makes it easier to select the edition and section you want to read. Plus, we’ve added two new sections to Extra Extra — Xtra Wheels and Xtra Money for automotive and personal finance coverage.

Homepage upgrades: Beginning early this week, we’ll have a fresh look at the top of the homepage that will make it quick and easy to find six of our top stories. We’ll also add a subscribers-only editors’ picks component lower on the page where our best journalism will be displayed for several days at a time so you can catch up on stories you might have missed.

Digital event listings: We have launched a new spot for event listings on our homepage at IdahoStatesman.com. You can search for local events — and add your own.

Sunday QR codes: Every Sunday will include QR codes on Page 2A. Using your phone’s camera with the code will connect you to the special content, which might include late coverage that didn’t make the print deadline, videos that accompany big stories or other digital elements.

Elevated design: Our Sunday print edition has long featured our most important journalism — and now we’ll have a presentation to match. As part of this transition, we’ll unveil a bolder, cleaner look for Page 1 on Sundays.
