The guided meditation you should follow for your star sign

Meditation has been linked to so many health and wellbeing benefits that it definitely deserves a spot in your routine. Helping to manage stress levels, increasing self-awareness, and reducing negative emotions. What’s not to like, right?

Bring your star sign into the picture by activating your elemental (fire, water, air or earth) characteristics to create a tailor-made meditation, placing you in your natural element. You’re welcome!

Introduction for ALL signs: start your meditation here, and then skip to your element

Find a quiet place to relax. Let your hands sit loosely in your lap, or by your side, and close your eyes.

Take a long slow deep breath in through your nose. Hold that breath, and then exhale through your mouth.

Take another slow breath in through your nose. Fill your lungs completely. Hold it for a moment and release.

On your out breaths, consciously imagine expelling your tension and stress, push them out with your breath like a grey cloud, and feel your body loosen.

Feel yourself relaxing more and more deeply with each breath.


Fire signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius

Follow the introduction but first light a candle and place it opposite you at eye level. It could be scented, or it could be a specific colour if you’re hoping to meditate on a particular theme (white for serenity, green for new ideas, blue for healing, red for love and passion).

As you breathe in and out, deeply and slowly, gaze at the flame. If you feel like you’re staring then gently blink your eyes and refocus, but keep your gaze soft and slightly unfocussed. You will notice that thoughts keep popping into your mind. Acknowledge them and then let them float away, keep bringing your attention back to the flame. Keep your gaze soft, and feel the warmth of its flickering light.

When you are ready, gently withdraw your gaze and focus your attention back into the room. Take a deep and clearing breath.


Air signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius

Follow the introduction and then imagine you’re outside in the twilight. The sun has just set, and you’re lying in a warm, safe and peaceful spot, lying back and gazing at the sky above.

The sky gradually darkens from a dusky pink to a dark indigo colour, and you feel very peaceful and calm.

In the distance, you can hear crickets and frogs chirping and croaking.

You notice that everything on the horizon is now in silhouette and, above, the sky is almost black.

Then, the stars start to appear, twinkling and sparkling, spreading out across the inky skyscape. Just lie back and enjoy the night-time show. Perhaps you see a comet or a shooting star.

When you are ready to leave your star gazing, you can begin to reawaken your body and mind. Take a deep clearing and return to the room.


Earth signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn

Follow the introduction and then imagine that you are out in the countryside. Overhead, the sky is an azure blue, dotted with fluffy clouds. The summer sun beams down and its rays feel warming and healing. You approach a beautiful old forest, smelling of pine and oak, brimming with life and vitality. Birds are chirping, butterflies flutter by, hedgerows bristle with small animals. You enter the forest on a smooth pathway and with every step you take, you notice how you feel increasingly refreshed and vital. Walking feels effortless, like you’re gliding. Any fatigue or tension just fades away with every step.

You notice how the trees soar up to the sky and dapple the sunlight falling through to the forest floor, cooling the air. Their leaves whisper in the breeze and the sunlight sparkles through them, bringing its warmth to the woods.

Walk for as long as you wish and notice the animals and creatures who pop up to say hello. When you’re ready, you can turn back and retrace your steps out of the forest, noticing how your energy and resourcefulness has grown and expanded, you feel ready for whatever comes next.


Water signs: Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio

Follow the introduction and then imagine that you are resting on an empty, beautiful beach, wrapped in a warm, fluffy blanket, watching the sunrise. The ocean is calm and ripples with shimmering blues and pinks, cast by the rising sun’s rays. Gentle, peaceful waves roll in toward the white sandy beach. Hear them break gently on the shore. This is paradise.

Notice that the sun is starting to rise, right out of the water. See the light brightening and expanding as the sun climbs higher into the sky, on the horizon.

Birds start to fly and flock overhead. Some settle nearby and gaze at you curiously. Some start to swoop into the water, diving for fish. The dawn brings a new day.

Continue to relax for a few moments here, enjoying the peaceful waves and your personal sunrise.

When you are ready to wake up, and return to the present, give yourself a few moments to do so. Slowly open your eyes, but know that you can return to your private beach spot any time.
