Gulf Winds Cares Foundation donates $10,250 to four area nonprofits

The Gulf Winds Cares Foundation recently donated a total of $10,250 to four local nonprofits in the pursuit of caring for those in need, a value held closely by Gulf Winds Credit Union, according to the organization.

The foundation donated $2,000 each to Brewton and Monroeville, Alabama-area YMCAs to support youth programs. YMCAs in small towns play an integral part in serving the community. Children gain valuable skills and parents can continue to work.

The foundation also made a gift of $5,000 to the Escambia County Agency on Aging to support their senior centers and a gift of $1,250 to Single Parents Raising a Gift to support single parents and their often challenging endeavors, as well as foster children and parents. Additionally, SPRAG supports Drexel and Honeybees, a donation-only restaurant in Brewton that the Gulf Winds Cares Foundation also supports.

The Pensacola Children’s Chorus recently announced that it has been awarded a grant from the Escambia County Children’s Trust to support its pioneering project, Sing to Succeed. This transformative initiative aims to harness the power of music to empower underserved youth, build their confidence and self-esteem, and foster social and emotional growth.

Sing to Succeed, made possible through the funding from ECT, will provide tuition-free membership to PCC’s Resident Choir Program for up to 60 low-income or at-risk youth. Through weekly rehearsals and performances, participants will develop essential life skills, such as responsibility, teamwork, accountability, empathy and confidence. This initiative recognizes the impact of choral singing on academic performance, learning aptitude, social skills and overall well-being.

Participants in the Sing to Succeed initiative will also receive individualized pre-rehearsal instruction in music theory and aural skills. Moreover, it will provide homework help, study and life skill development, and subject area assistance, enabling singers to engage in rehearsals with greater focus and enthusiasm.
