Artists at Franklin Square Gallery

Three of the most innovative artists, Kimberly Smittle Caroon, Sharon Vinciguerra, and Anne McMath, art work will be on display through Saturday, May 21 at Franklin Square Gallery in Southport.

Caroon, a 3D artist was born and educated in Ohio. She now resides in Boiling Spring Lakes. Caroon holds a bachelor’s degree in art education from The Ohio State University, and has been teaching the art of creating pottery for over 30 years. As the winner of numerous art awards, Caroon has served as a judge in juried art shows locally and in Wilmington.

Vinciguerra, also a 3D artist discovered clay in her freshman year of college in Upstate New York. However, her art had to wait until her retirement to North Carolina in 1999. She found the Franklin Square Gallery and its pottery studio where she honed her skills to produce what she calls “thoughts in clay”. Every piece tells a story. Her work is often humorous and sometimes controversial.

McMath, a 2D Artist and watercolor painter, grew up in New Jersey, but spent the summer as a child on the beaches of South Carolina. Moving to Denver, after graduating from East Carolina University, she studied painting with Harold A. Wolfinbarger Jr. for over 20 years and fell in love with watercolors. Throughout her years as a pediatric nurse practitioner, she continued to paint. Most of her work is of coastal landscapes and ocean scenes, painted whimsically in bright pastel colors.
