Nov. 2—After managing retail gun stores for about six years, Jerry Dougherty recently branched out to start his own business.

Dougherty of Scranton hosted a soft opening for Loyal Nine Firearms on Tuesday. A grand opening for the shop at 1253 Scranton-Carbondale Highway will be held Saturday, he said.

The shop has about 180 guns — a 50/50 mix of new and used firearms, Dougherty said.

He said the high volume of traffic made the location attractive, and he hopes to eventually buy a building and expand. For more information on the business, visit the Loyal Nine Firearms' Facebook page.
