Gunman, employee shot during attempted robbery in Baltimore, boy wounded in arm in separate shootings Tuesday, police say

A would-be robber and an employee were shot Tuesday afternoon during a botched robbery at a cellphone store location in Baltimore, police said.

Northeast District police responded to a shooting about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday at the Metro PCS store in the 5400 block of Sinclair Lane in Frankford.

Officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds that were non-life-threatening, police said. They were taken to the hospital.

The alleged robber walked into the store about 1:25 p.m. seeking customer service but employees told him “they would not be able to assist him,” a news release said.

He then left the store but returned a short time later with a handgun and announced a robbery, police said. An employee wrestled the robber for the gun, but it discharged and struck the other employee in the leg, according to police.

“The handgun then fell to the floor at which time the victim, who had been shot in the leg, picked up the handgun and shot the suspect in the abdomen,” the release said.

The investigation is ongoing and police didn’t identify the suspect. He will be charged with attempted armed robbery, reckless endangerment and handgun violations after he is released from the hospital, police said.

Several hours later, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the arm while he was inside a store in Upton.

Central District officers were in the 1800 block of Pennsylvania about 5:25 p.m. when they were flagged down by the victim, according to a release. He was taken to a hospital.

The victim told police someone had shot him in the left forearm through a window from outside the store at 1841 Pennsylvania Ave. before fleeing on foot, the release said.
