Gunman on the run after detective dodges bullet in Pompano Beach
Marquel Mathis is a wanted man.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office says the 26-year-old Pompano Beach resident fired a shot at a detective and missed.
Detectives were conducting surveillance on a drug case about 9 p.m. Tuesday. Mathis noticed them when he left an apartment in the 800 block of Southwest 10th Drive, police say.
One detective identified himself as a law enforcement officer and that’s when investigators say Mathis pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired a shot toward the detective.
