Gunmen hunt down, kill 6 men in Juárez neighborhood

Gunmen hunted down and killed six men Wednesday afternoon in a quick sequence of shootings blocks apart in a neighborhood on the southeastern edge of Juárez, according to news reports.

The homicides occurred at three locations in the Urbivilla del Prado neighborhood, including four men killed when shooters busted into a house, Channel 44-XHIJ reported.

The attacks were carried out by armed men moving in a convoy and were believed to be linked to fighting between local drug dealers, XHIJ reported.

The first attack took place when gunmen fired upon two men riding on a bicycle. One man died at a hospital, while the other man ran before gunmen caught up to him and killed him at the doorway of a nearby home, according to El Heraldo de Juárez.

Next, gunmen broke into another house and killed four men on Prados del Eden Street in the same residential area, XHIJ reported.

The names of the victims had not been disclosed. Juárez police reported they detained two young men, ages 17 and 19, in connection with the shootings as an investigation continued.

The violence in Juárez has continued in February after January finished with about 95 homicides, including the slayings of three women found with their hands tied and their throats slashed on Jan. 28 in a house in the Hacienda de las Torres area.

The Chihuahua Attorney General's Office identified the victims as 27-year-old Diana Priscila V.E., 20-year-old Betzy Itzel H.R. and a 17-year-old girl only identified by the initials C.D.C.S. due to rules regarding the naming of juvenile crime victims. There have been no arrests.
