Gusty Winds and Hail Blow Through Northern Illinois

Severe storms moved over Wisconsin and into northern Illinois on Tuesday, September 7, the National Weather Service (NWS) reported.

Jake Smith said this video shows the storm’s impact on Wauconda, a village in Illinois northwest of Chicago, on Tuesday afternoon.

“I was taken aback by how strong that hail core came through,” Smith wrote on Twitter.

According to the NWS, parts of Lee County reported hail as large as golf balls. A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect for parts of Illinois and Indiana until 9 pm. Credit: Jake Smith via Storyful
