Gusty winds, rain and snow mix expected with multi-day coastal storm

Storm's a brewin', but as with most of the weather events this winter, the Shore is expected to miss the brunt of the snow, forecasters said Sunday.

A coastal storm is expected to hit the region beginning Sunday night, bringing rain, some snow bands, gusty winds and the potential for minor coastal flooding, according to the National Weather Service in Mouth Holly.

The heaviest impact: Winds on the back-end of the storm could gust to 50 mph or more on Tuesday, Ray Martin, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, said.

"It's going to be a slow-moving storm, so winds are going to hold on pretty much all day Tuesday and into Wednesday," Martin said.

Central and Southern New Jersey have been on pace for the lowest level of snow on record thanks in part to a jet stream that has kept temperatures at the Shore mild and snowstorms to the west and north.

The Shore once again looks positioned to miss the bulk of the precipitation. Two low-pressure systems Sunday morning were moving from the west − one in Minnesota, the other in Alabama −and were on a collision course to produce up to 2 feet of snow in New England, Martin said.

In New Jersey, Warren, Morris, Hunterdon and Somerset counties could see 2-to-5 inches of snow Monday night into Tuesday. Monmouth and parts of Ocean county could see 1-to-2 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

"This will be a big (snow) storm somewhere, but probably not in our area," Martin said.
