ALLENDALE – The No. 1 Grand Valley State Lakers are headed to Colorado Springs, Colorado for the NCAA Division II women’s soccer Final Four after a 1-0 win over the Central Missouri Jennies on Sunday at the GVSU Soccer Field.

The Lakers improve to 22-1-2 on the season and await their seeding and opponent for the national semifinals Thursday.

A blustering wind howled and icy rain drizzled the field throughout Sunday’s contest, making for difficult conditions in this renewed rivalry; a sixth time these two sides have played with a trip to the Final Four on the line in the last decade. The Lakers have now won five of those six meetings after a narrow victory Sunday.

The Lakers struck early, after a flurry of shots – one off the bar, one saved and one deflected, Caitie Baron found the ball at her feet in the middle of the box and was able to punch it past the keeper inside the right post. Both sides would ring the bar, see chances just missed and tense moments as the Lakers held on for their 16th shutout of the season.
