Gwinnett driver caught going double the speed limit. He says it was for an emission test

A driver said his need for speed was an attempt to have his car pass an emissions test.

Last month, a Duluth officer was patrolling the area, when he noticed a white BMW traveling northbound on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.

Authorities stated the driver, identified as Paul Abdel-Masih, was going 90 mph. Abdel-Masih told the officer, he was “accelerating quickly” rather than driving fast.

When officers asked Abdel-Masih was driving so fast, he said he was trying to get the car to pass emission, and driving fast was to ensure the check engine light did not come on.

According to Gwinnett County official’s website, the city limits for Peachtree Industrial Boulevard is a 45 mph zone.

Just this past weekend, Forsyth County deputies pulled over a motorcyclist going 131 mph on Georgia 400.

He told officials he was “trying to beat the rain”.

Abdel-Masih was charged with reckless driving.
