Gymnastics: Olsen, Perham down Cardinals

Feb. 24—WILLMAR — Willmar ninth-grader Lyndi Koosman and senior Tayva Carruthers finished second and third, respectively, as the Cardinals dropped a non-conference meet against Perham 139.575-129.600 on Tuesday from Willmar High School.

Perham is ranked fifth in the state in Class A. Willmar is ranked 14th.

The Yellowjackets' Jada Olsen took the all-around with a score of 37.400. Olsen is the defending state Class A all-around champion. She won three events (vault, uneven bars and floor). Carruthers won the other event, taking the balance beam with a 9.125.

Koosman's best effort was a second place on the floor exercise (9.200).

Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg sophomore Libby McGeary swept all four events in her team's win against Annandale at Benson.

Benson is ranked 10th in the state in Class A.

McGeary won the all-around with a score of 37.375. She had her highest score on the balance beam (9.525). Makenna Kelley finished second in the all-around (34.900).
